Biography

Marcelo Fortuna was born in Rio de Janeiro. He studied music theory at the Villa-Lobos Institute, Composition and then Guitar (with Léo Soares and Turíbio Santos) at the School of Music of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. He also studied Orchestration at the Brazilian School of Music, with Nelson de Macedo, and Harmony at CIGAM, with Estevão Teixeira and Ian Guest.
Throughout his career in music he has performed both popular and concert music. He has participated in numerous concerts and recordings as a soloist and an accompanist. With the Brazilian String Orchestra, he recorded three albums that won three Sharp awards as the best instrumental records of the years 1991 and 1992. He edited his first solo CD in 2002 and his second solo CD in 2019.
Marcelo graduated in Classical Guitar in the Superior School of Music of the Lisbon University in July 1999 under the direction of Piñero Nagy and António Gonçalves. In April of 2010, he concluded the Professionalization in service in Guitar and Education at Aberta University of Lisbon.
Besides being a guitar and chamber music teacher, he also works as an arranger and music producer.
